This striking artwork depicts the legendary coastal town of Polignano a Mare in southern Italy, whose historic buildings sit majestically atop a rocky overhang, constantly battered by powerful waves. The turquoise sea crashes against the rock with relentless force, yet the stony hill and the houses built upon it have withstood this natural spectacle for centuries. The beige and light brown hues of the rock and buildings blend harmoniously into the scene, underscoring the timeless presence of this unique place. The creation of this painting spanned three years. It was painted in three different countries and accompanied me through a very dynamic period of my life.


For me, this painting embodies a powerful metaphor for resilience and perseverance. The rock and the town, which have developed in harmony with nature over centuries, represent the human drive to endure despite all adversity. The waves may rage, but the rock remains steadfast. Just as the rock defies the sea, so too can we face life's storms with patience and strength. It reminds me of the wisdom that true perseverance lies not in resisting challenges, but in the ability to face and endure them.


The original painting was completed in 2016 and is one of the artworks that showcases my artistic journey before I immersed myself in mountain art.
